The mission enjoined upon the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter by the Apostolic See at its foundation is twofold.
First, it is to form and sanctify priests in conformity with the authentic doctrine, spirituality, and liturgy of the Roman Church, assuring their fidelity to the Successor of Peter. Secondly, it is to deploy those priests in the service of the Church. An indispensable part of that deployment is the establishment of Catholic schools where, in cooperation with divine grace, young persons will be formed by the perennial wisdom and faith of the Church, thereby receiving truly balanced educations ordered toward their integral human development.
To this end the Fraternity founded St. Gregory’s Academy, where a classical liberal arts education is offered within the Catholic spiritual and intellectual tradition.
In our day and age there is an obvious and dire need for the restoration of Christian culture which must arise through the formation of the young, and that the traditional forms of education are essential to the future salvation of souls and the preservation and defense of the Faith in the world.
This critical mission, however, is not maintained or accomplished without considerable difficulty; but these are difficulties we must overcome to preserve and revitalize our heritage. Below are a few of the practical and cultural challenges we must face in keeping St. Gregory’s Academy strong:
- Traditional education is dying out because it is thought impractical.
- Latin, the Classics, and the foundations of Western civilization are all being lost and undermined in the public education standards of today.
- Christian values and Catholic influence are fast disappearing in our culture.
- The true ideals of masculinity (the clergy, husbands, fathers, leaders, etc.) are under attack.
