Rector's Message

Dear Friend,

My name is Fr. Antony Sumich and it is my pleasure to introduce myself to you, and my privilege of having you, and so many other loyal patrons, as recourse in a very urgent matter.

I have been assigned to the post of Rector at St. Gregory’s Academy, and I am honored and thrilled to assist in the development of this excellent school, whose mission is for the good of our youth and the Church, and the glory of God. I was born in New Zealand, of Croatian descent, and spent my boyhood (amongst other things) playing rugby. At 26 years of age I left New Zealand and traveled to Europe, where I spent the next twelve years connecting with my Slavic roots mainly in Croatia, Slovenia, and Austria. During this time, I coached the Slovenian National Rugby senior team, the Rugby Club Versailles, and the Croatian Nation Rugby teams, and also became qualified as an Austrian ski instructor. Then God changed my course, and I entered the Fraternity of St. Peter’s seminary in Germany in 2002, transferred to Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Nebraska the following year, and was ordained a priest in 2008. For the last three years I worked as assistant pastor at the FSSP apostolate in Nigeria.

As Rector of St. Gregory’s I will strive to uphold, by the grace of God and your prayers, the Academy’s long-standing commitment to academic excellence, religious fervor, and (as you may have guessed) prowess in the game of rugby.

But I must appeal to you for immediate support to make this upcoming school year a success. As the summer vacation comes to a close, many new applications for worthy students are arriving. With these applications for admission come requests for financial aid and even for full scholarships. Given the current economic climate and the resultant challenges to maintain a stabilized budget, it is absolutely impossible to respond to all of these requests. Without you and your assistance, many boys who are promising students will be turned away out of sheer necessity. Please, if you can, help us avoid this. Kindly consider a scholarship donation, either in full or in part, today and contact me at St. Gregory’s Academy. Your gift can change the life of a deserving young man and contribute to the future of the Catholic Faith in America.

Please give generously. The need is great and much lies in the balance. May God bless and keep you, and thank you for you prayers and support.

In Christ,

Fr. Antony Sumich, FSSP
Rector
